Britain and France on the path to recognizing Palestine

PNN – As the Zionist regime’s crimes in the occupied territories escalate, the British Foreign Secretary announced negotiations with France and Saudi Arabia to recognize the state of Palestine during the United Nations meeting next June.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network from the Financial Times website, As part of efforts to achieve the two-state solution desired by the West, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy stated that the unilateral recognition of Palestine by European countries such as Spain, Ireland, and Norway had no impact on the course of the conflict, saying: Britain is willing to recognize the state of Palestine when it has a real impact on the scene, not just a symbolic gesture.

Lemie’s comments come as French President Emmanuel Macron recently announced that Paris could use the opportunity of the United Nations conference to recognize the state of Palestine, a meeting that will be chaired by France and Saudi Arabia.

The British Foreign Secretary claimed: Recognition should not be an “end in itself”, but rather a step in a political process towards two-state coexistence. Once the UK recognises the State of Palestine, no one has a veto. We will continue to engage with partners on this issue.

The possible and coordinated recognition of the state of Palestine by Britain and France, as two permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, would carry significant symbolic and diplomatic weight.

However, this initiative still faces significant obstacles, including the open opposition of the Tel Aviv regime and the lack of agreement on the conditions for recognition.

On October 7, 2023, the Israeli regime launched a war against the Gaza Strip with two main goals: to destroy the Hamas movement and to return the Zionist prisoners from the region, but it failed to achieve these goals and was forced to reach an agreement with the Hamas movement to exchange prisoners.

On January 19, 2025, based on an agreement between Hamas and the Israeli regime, a ceasefire was established in the Gaza Strip, and a number of prisoners were exchanged. However, the Israeli regime subsequently refused to enter into negotiations for the second phase of the ceasefire and resumed its military aggression against the Gaza Strip, violating the terms of the ceasefire.
