Britain bans exports of sensitive software and equipment to Russia

PNN – Continuing its hostile stance against Russia, the British government has imposed a new package of sanctions targeting the export of sensitive and advanced software and equipment to Moscow.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, British Deputy Foreign Secretary Stephen Doty announced today in a statement, a copy of which was made available to reporters: Vladimir Putin thought he could use British markets to fuel his war machine, but we are exposing and disrupting this covert trade. These export measures cut off the vital flow of goods to Russia and deny the Kremlin access to the technology it needs to continue its brutal war.

According to the statement, from today, the export of specialized software and technologies used in Russia’s defense and energy sectors will be banned. This includes software used in identifying and exploiting new oil and gas resources, and according to London, preventing their export is aimed at “Putin’s financial coffers.”

Britain has also banned the export of a range of electronic items and game consoles to Russia, which London claims are used to control military drones. The sanctions minister said: From now on, game controllers will no longer be used to kill in Ukraine.

The British government has also completely banned the export of goods such as chemicals, industrial machinery, metals and complex technological equipment that have dual-use capabilities and may be used in the production of weapons.

Since the start of the war in Ukraine in February 2022, the UK, along with the EU and the US, has imposed a series of trade, financial and military sanctions on Russia. These initially targeted banks, military companies and individuals close to the Kremlin, but have gradually expanded to include areas such as technology exports, energy and business services.

In recent months, the UK government has focused on identifying ways to circumvent sanctions and prevent the transfer of goods with military applications through third countries. In this regard, a list of Common High Priority items has been published and their exchange has been subject to strict monitoring.

The British Deputy Foreign Secretary claimed: We will use all legal means to strike at the Russian war machine, save Ukrainian lives, and protect British businesses from Russian abuses.
