Britain: Escalating tensions between India and Pakistan will not bring victory

PNN – The British Foreign Secretary, expressing concern about the rising tensions between India and Pakistan, called for restraint from both sides and efforts to return to the path of diplomacy, warning that if the situation continues, “no side will win.”

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, David Lammy issued a statement on Wednesday, a copy of which was published on the British government’s website, stating that London calls on New Delhi and Islamabad to avoid escalating actions and engage in direct dialogue to find a quick and diplomatic solution.

He added: We have close and unique relationships with both countries, and I have made it clear to my counterparts in India and Pakistan that if this situation escalates, no one will win.

The British Foreign Secretary also emphasized, referring to the recent deadly attack in the tourist area of Pehelgam in Indian-controlled Kashmir, which killed dozens of people: The UK strongly condemns this attack and stresses the need for an immediate return to stability in the region and the protection of civilian lives.

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after gunmen attacked a group of tourists in the tourist district of Phalgam in Indian-administered Kashmir, killing at least 27 people. Indian officials described the incident as a “terrorist attack” and accused Pakistan of supporting the perpetrators.

Accordingly, in Operation Sindoor, the Indian army targeted nine locations in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir with missiles, which New Delhi said were terrorist bases. Pakistani officials, however, denied this claim and announced that at least 26 civilians were killed and dozens more were injured in the attack.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif announced the downing of five Indian fighter jets, and the country’s military warned that the response to India’s actions would continue. The developments have once again raised concerns about the possibility of a wider conflict between the two nuclear-armed countries.
