Burrell: The situation in Gaza is a symbol of the failure of humanity

PNN – The head of the European Union’s foreign policy Josep Burrell expressed concern about the worsening of the humanitarian situation in Gaza and said: What is happening in Gaza today is a symbol of the failure of humanity.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, Josep Burrell told reporters on the eve of the European Council meeting in Brussels: “There are no words to describe the situation in Gaza.” He expressed hope that European leaders will approve a statement at today’s meeting that will increase the pressure on Tel Aviv to stop the killing of Palestinians.

The European Union foreign policy official continued: We certainly want the release of the hostages (Israeli prisoners), but we are very concerned about the unacceptable situation of the people of Gaza. What is happening in Gaza today is a failure of humanity. This is not a humanitarian crisis but a failure of humanity.

Accordingly, he stated: The only way to stop this crisis is for Israel to respect (Palestinian) civilians and facilitate the transfer of aid to Gaza.

Pointing to the air transfer of humanitarian aid to Gaza, Burrell added: “We are building a relief port, of course the Ashkelon port is available, but it is closed.” The borders are so closed that aid does not reach inside Gaza.

He, who previously accused the Israeli regime of using hunger as a weapon in the Gaza war, added: I hope that the Council will send a strong message to Israel to stop blocking the route of aid to Gaza.

The humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip are extremely critical in the shadow of the continuation of the Zionist regime’s war with the complicity of some Western countries, including the United States and England, and Tel Aviv does not allow aid to enter this region.

Not long ago, the aid organization Oxfam announced that the Zionist regime deliberately and systematically prevents humanitarian aid from reaching the Gaza Strip.

This international organization declared that about 1,700,000 Palestinians, equivalent to 75% of the population of Gaza, are at risk of famine, stating that the conditions in this strip are “beyond disaster.”

In the meantime, some Arab and Western countries have sent small amounts of aid through the air to the people of the Gaza Strip, especially in the north of the region, during recent weeks, which does not meet the widespread needs of the people. But the Palestinians and their supporters consider the sending of these air aids as an insult to the Palestinian people and emphasize the need to put pressure on the Zionist regime to reopen the land crossings of the Gaza Strip.

Until now, the efforts of the UN Security Council to stop the aggression of the Zionist regime against the residents of the Gaza Strip, which began on October 7, 2023, have failed due to the comprehensive support of the United States and its use of the veto privilege.

With the full support of the West and to retaliate against the surprise attacks of the resistance forces, the Zionist regime has launched a massive massacre in Gaza. According to reports, more than 31,000 Palestinians have been martyred and more than 72,000 others have been injured.
