Callas: Europe wants to be part of the transitional government in Gaza.

The bloc is looking to play a role in a future transitional government for the Gaza Strip, the bloc’s top diplomat told reporters on Monday.

Asked whether the EU wanted to participate in US President Donald Trump’s “peace mission,” Kallas said: “Yes, we feel that Europe has a big role and we should be on board with it.”

The White House, in a statement detailing Trump’s plan for a ceasefire in Gaza, said: “The strip will be temporarily run by a transitional government of non-political experts chosen based on professional merit, with no role for Hamas and no occupation or annexation of Gaza by Israel.”

Hamas, the Israeli regime, and the US began talks in Egypt today to reach a ceasefire agreement. The talks are expected to last “several days,” with mediators from the United States, Qatar, Egyp,t and Turkey, a senior official told CNN.

Trump expects the talks to last several days and has urged negotiators to move quickly. He previously told CNN that Hamas would face destruction if it refused to cede power in Gaza.
