PNN – Canada’s Prime Minister Says Country Will Reduce Military Spending to the United States.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Saturday that Canada will reduce its long-standing dependence on the United States for military spending and supplies, pledging to strengthen domestic industry and expand global partnerships.
Carney told delegates at the Liberal Party’s national convention in Montreal that “the days when our military sent 70 cents on every dollar to the United States are over,” to applause from the audience.
He stressed economic sovereignty and national unity, while also outlining his government’s plans to prioritize Canadian-made materials and labour in future projects.
Carney also cited rising trade tensions with Washington, including tariffs imposed under President Donald Trump.
The Canadian prime minister said Trump’s tariffs were widely seen as the main immediate threat, but stressed that the larger, more enduring challenge is maintaining unity and a shared sense of shared interests.
