Canadian cafes changed the name of “Americano” coffee to “Canadiano”!

Canadian cafes changed the name of “Americano” coffee to “Canadiano”!

According to the Independent, following the controversy that arose after the statements of US President Donald Trump and his dream plan to make Canada the 51st state of the United States, Canadian cafes have organized a symbolic protest against the plan.

Some Canadian cafes and restaurants have changed the name of the coffee “Americano” to “Canadiano” in protest of Trump’s proposal, and in this way oppose the plan.

Barista magazine initially reported that a famous cafe in the western Canadian province of British Columbia published a message on social media, encouraging other cafes to take action in this direction.

The cafe’s message, which has now been deleted, said: “For 16 years, we have secretly called the Americano ‘Canadiano. Today we have officially decided to openly ask cafes across the country to make this name change. Join us and call it “Canadiano”.

Trump, 78, who officially returned to the White House on January 20, 2025, after his inauguration, made the joke during a dinner with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau before his inauguration.

Trump has said he would impose tariffs on Canadian imports if Canada fails to curb illegal immigration and drug trafficking. He added, noting that the United States pays Canada millions of dollars in trade deficits each year: “I don’t want to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to support this country unless it becomes a state. And if it becomes a state, the Canadian people will pay less taxes.”

Trump also joked that “Canada can keep its national anthem after joining the United States and becoming the 51st state of this country”!
