Canceling the annual press conference of the Chinese Prime Minister; Breaking a 30-year tradition

PNN – The spokesperson of the 14th National People’s Congress of China announced that the press conference of Prime Minister Li Qiang will not be held.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, quoted by the China News Network, the spokesperson of the 14th National People’s Congress, Lu Chinjian, said in a press conference: The annual press meeting of Prime Minister Li Chiang will not be held tomorrow (Tuesday) and if there are no special circumstances, this annual meeting will not be held in the next few years.

He added: Tomorrow, the Prime Minister of China will present the report of the government’s work, including the written reports of the plan and budget, to the representatives of the National People’s Congress of this country.

In response to social concerns and questions raised by people and the media, Lu Qinjian added: “We will increase the number of news conferences and participants, and we will invite prominent advisers of the State Council to answer the questions of foreign and domestic reporters.”

He also announced efforts to create an open space and provide more opportunities for Chinese and foreign journalists to interview Beijing officials.

Since 1993, Chinese premiers have held a press conference with the media after the annual meeting of the National People’s Congress (NPC), providing a rare opportunity for journalists as well as representatives of the foreign press to ask questions.
