China and India clash over Modi’s visit to the disputed region

PNN – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to a disputed area on the border with China led to a verbal dispute between the two countries.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network from Reuters news agency, New Delhi on Tuesday rejected Beijing’s objections to Modi’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh and declared that this border state in the northeast has always been an inseparable and undeniable part of India.

The statements of the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs have been raised while the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang Wenbin, said yesterday that Beijing is strongly opposed to Modi’s activities in the region and has submitted a diplomatic protest to India.

The Prime Minister of India visited Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday to inaugurate infrastructure projects, including a tunnel connecting it with the strategic border region of Tawang. This tunnel is expected to ensure faster and smoother movement of troops in the border area.

China considers the region of Arunachal Pradesh as a part of southern Tibet and its territory, while India rejects this claim and says that this region has always been a part of India.

Randhir Jaiswal, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India, said: Indian leaders usually visit Arunachal Pradesh as they travel to other Indian states. There is no point in objecting to such trips or development projects of India.

He also added: The fact that the state of Arunachal Pradesh has always been, is and will be an inseparable and undeniable part of India will not change.

The two nuclear countries of India and China share a common border of 3,000 kilometers, most of which is not properly demarcated. At least 20 Indian soldiers and 4 Chinese troops were killed in 2020 due to border clashes in the Western Himalayas.

The armies of the two countries have since strengthened their positions and deployed more equipment and troops on the border. This situation has always prevailed between the two countries for several decades after the bloody border war in 1962.

Last year, tensions rose between the two countries after Beijing named 11 districts in Arunachal Pradesh with Chinese words.
