PNN – In the meeting between the representatives of China and the United States on climate change issues, the parties agreed on cooperation in the field of reducing the emission of greenhouse gases, including methane.
According to Pakistan News Network’s report from Global Times, China’s special representative on climate change, Liu Zhenmin, met and talked with his American counterpart, John Podesta. In this meeting, they agreed on climate change cooperation, including the establishment of control systems and reduction of methane gas emissions.
The parties also discussed the fields of energy transfer and other non-carbon greenhouse gases, circular economy, resource efficiency, deforestation, cooperation in multilateral fields and the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Summit 2024 in Baku.

In this meeting, the two sides pledged to expand bilateral cooperation, increase the capacity of deploying methane emission reduction systems, and develop and improve relevant MRV systems and standards with the aim of achieving control and significant reduction of methane emissions in the 2020s.
China and the United States plan to host the second meeting on methane and non-carbon dioxide greenhouse gases on the sidelines of the United Nations climate change meeting.
Earlier, China and France issued a joint statement on marine biodiversity, including cooperation on climate change.
