China conducts military drills around Taiwan; Taipei declares readiness

Taiwan

PNN – Simultaneous with China’s large-scale military exercises around Taiwan, the separatist forces on the island have been placed on military alert.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network citing Reuters, the Chinese military on Monday deployed units from its army, navy, air force, and artillery to conduct the “Mission Justice 2025” exercises around Taiwan.

The Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese army announced in a statement that these exercises will include live-fire drills on Tuesday. The statement released a graphic map identifying five zones around the island of Taiwan, areas that will face maritime and airspace restrictions for 10 hours starting from 8 a.m.

These exercises are the sixth round of Chinese military drills since 2022. They began 11 days after the United States announced an $11.1 billion arms sale to the Taiwan separatists.

The Chinese military announced it will deploy fighter jets, bombers, drones, and long-range missiles, and will conduct drills simulating attacks on moving land targets, as part of a simulated coordinated multi-directional assault on the island.

A spokesperson for the Eastern Theater Command stated that these exercises are a serious warning to the Taiwan separatist forces and external interfering forces.

The Taiwan separatists condemned China’s exercises. A spokesperson for the office of the leader of the self-governed island of Taiwan urged China not to miscalculate and not to undermine regional peace.

They called China’s military exercises around Taiwan an irresponsible act and demanded their cessation.

The defense ministry of the self-governed island of Taiwan announced that in the past 24 hours, two military aircraft and 11 Chinese ships were active around the island, and the Taiwanese military is on high alert, ready to execute a “rapid response exercise.” This type of exercise is for quickly moving forces in the event of an actual Chinese attack.

The defense ministry of the self-governed island of Taiwan declared: Our armed forces will remain at the highest level of vigilance and readiness.

Chinese state television announced that these exercises will focus on blockading Taiwan’s critical ports, including Keelung Port in the north and Kaohsiung Port in the south.

Although the Chinese military conducted drills simulating the blockade of Taiwan’s ports during last year’s exercises, this is the first time it has publicly declared that the exercises around Taiwan are aimed at preventing foreign military intervention.
