China stresses countermeasures after 104% US tariff

PNN – After US President Donald Trump’s administration imposed a 104% tariff on goods imported from China, Beijing emphasized continuing effective and decisive measures to protect its interests.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing Reuters, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a press conference on Wednesday: The US continues to abuse tariffs to pressure China; China strongly opposes this and will never accept such bullying.

In this regard, Xinhua News Agency reported: The Information Office of the State Council of China on Wednesday released a report entitled “China’s Position on Some Issues Related to China-US Economic and Trade Relations.”

According to the Chinese state media, the document was released at a time when increasing unilateralism and protectionism in the United States have significantly hindered normal economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. Since the start of the trade friction in 2018, the US side has imposed tariffs on Chinese imports worth more than $500 billion.

According to this document, in response to US policies, China has taken strong countermeasures to defend its national interests and remains committed to resolving disputes through dialogue and consultation, with multiple consultations with the US side to stabilize bilateral economic and trade relations.

White House spokeswoman Carolyn Leavitt told reporters on Tuesday that Trump is set to impose 84 percent tariffs on all goods imported from China. That means all Chinese goods imported into the United States will be subject to tariffs of at least 104 percent.

Imports from China were previously scheduled to be subject to a 34% increase on Wednesday, but after Beijing failed to back down from its promise to impose retaliatory tariffs of 34% on American goods by Tuesday afternoon, Washington announced another 50% tariff on imports from China.
