China: US resolution on Gaza ignores Palestinian rights

US resolution

PNN – The spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that the reason for the country’s abstention from the US resolution on Gaza was that the resolution ignored the rights of the Palestinians.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing TASS, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning announced that the US-proposed resolution in the UN Security Council regarding the Gaza Strip did not fully address the issue of the “two-state solution” and did not take into account the rights of the Palestinians to determine their own destiny.

She cited the reason for China’s abstention from the US resolution on Gaza as the resolution’s insufficient attention to the issue of forming a Palestinian state.

The Chinese official said that the status of key issues, such as the fate of Gaza after the end of the conflict, is “unclear” in the US resolution, saying: China supports the just struggle of the Palestinian people to restore their legitimate rights and will strive to establish a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the region.

Mao Ning also emphasized: China supports the Security Council’s actions to establish a sustainable ceasefire, alleviate the humanitarian crisis, and begin the reconstruction of Gaza.

The UN Security Council held a meeting on Monday night, New York time, on two draft resolutions proposed by the United States and Russia on the Gaza Strip, and the United States resolution on Gaza was approved by 13 votes.

Thirteen members of the Security Council voted in favor of the US-drafted resolution on Gaza, with Russia and China abstaining. The resolution would create the legal basis for the establishment of a peace commission and an international ceasefire stabilization force in Gaza.
