The Wall Street Journal claimed: China is considering restricting exports of rare earth elements and some other sensitive materials to companies linked to the US military while speeding up the licensing process for other companies. Under this system, companies with ties to the US military industry will be denied access to these materials and other manufacturers will be given priority.
Rare earth elements are widely used in advanced industries, military equipment, electronics, and new technologies, and controlling their exports could become a tool to increase China’s economic and security influence. The United States has previously tried to secure its access to these materials through imports from China, but this new program could threaten the supply chain of the country’s vital industries.
