China’s reaction to Putin’s order to expand Russia’s nuclear capabilities

PNN – Following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s order to expand the country’s nuclear weapons capabilities, China has called for calm and restraint in the Ukraine conflict.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, quoted by AFP, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian announced on Wednesday that under the current situation, all parties should remain calm and exercise self-restraint.

While Western countries consider China to play a key role in preventing nuclear tensions, Lin Jian said that all parties should work together through dialogue and consultation to reduce tensions.

He pointed out: China’s position to encourage all parties to de-escalate and commit to a political solution to the Ukraine crisis remains unchanged. China will continue to play a constructive role in this field.

On Tuesday, Putin signed a decree allowing Moscow to use nuclear weapons if nuclear powers back Ukraine.

The move came on the 1,000th day of the war in Ukraine, after the United States authorized Kiev to use long-range missiles to attack military targets inside Russia.

Following the signing of this document by Putin, French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized that China has an important role to play in preventing nuclear tensions.

Yesterday, Macron met Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro and said that he asked him to negotiate with Putin to stop the war with Ukraine.

Macron added that China, as Russia’s ally, has the capacity to negotiate with President Putin so that he stops his attacks on Ukraine.

China presents itself as a neutral country in the Ukraine war and says that, unlike the United States and other Western countries, it does not provide aid to either side.
