According to the report of Pakistan News Network, Russian Presidential Aide Nikolai Patrushev announced that Moscow, Beijing, and Tehran have dispatched vessels to the Strait of Hormuz for joint naval exercises.
In an interview with a local media outlet, the Russian official described the exercise as part of a coordinated program between Moscow, Tehran, and Beijing.
In an interview with the newspaper “Argumenti v Facti”, Patrushev said: Three countries will participate in the 2026 Maritime Security Belt exercise in the Strait of Hormuz.
Some domestic Iranian media outlets had previously reported that Iran, Russia, and China would hold their eighth joint naval exercise, titled “Security Belt,” in late February.
The “Maritime Security Belt” naval exercises have been held since 2019 at the initiative of the Iranian Navy.
The stated objectives of these exercises include strengthening the security of global maritime trade, conducting joint anti-piracy and counter-terrorism measures, and conducting search and rescue operations.
