PNN – In a meeting with the National Security Adviser of the US Government, the Chinese Foreign Minister considered Taiwan’s independence issue to be the biggest challenge for the relations between China and the US.
According to the International group of Pakistan News Network, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited US national security adviser Jake Sullivan in Bangkok this Saturday and discussed with him the challenges and controversial issues in relations between Washington and Beijing.
According to TASS news agency, Wang Yi said during his meeting with Jake Sullivan: The so-called issue of Taiwan independence poses the highest risk to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait region. This issue is also considered the biggest challenge for US-China relations.
China’s foreign minister stressed that America should remain committed to the “One China” policy and bilateral agreements with Beijing. Wang Yi also pointed out that Washington should stick to its promise not to support separatism in Taiwan.
The White House also announced in a statement about the meeting that Jake Sullivan told Wang Yi that an armed conflict between the two countries is unacceptable.
According to this statement, Sullivan said in the meeting with Wang Yi: “Although the United States and China are competing with each other, the two countries should not allow their competition to be drawn into conflict or confrontation.”

The statement read: “The two sides held frank, substantive and constructive talks on global and regional issues, including issues related to Russia’s war in Ukraine, the Middle East, North Korea, the South China Sea and Burma.”
The White House announced that Sullivan had emphasized to Wang Yi “the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.”
According to “Reuters” news agency, the Chinese Foreign Minister called for searching and highlighting the commonalities of the two countries and putting aside their differences.
Also, the officials of the two countries pledged to maintain channels of strategic communication between them and pursue diplomacy and consultation in important areas at a high level, including through contact between the presidents of the two countries.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense announced on Saturday that it had detected 33 military aircraft and several Chinese warships around the island.
About two weeks ago, in a joint press conference with his Egyptian counterpart in Cairo, the Chinese foreign minister absolutely rejected any independent future for the island of Taiwan as a country.
China’s foreign minister said in his remarks after the victory of Taiwan’s ruling party candidate Lai Ching-te in the island’s presidential election: “Taiwan has never been a country and certainly will not be in the future.”
