CNN: Trump administration dismisses dozens of ambassadors.

CNN reported yesterday (January 1, local time) that about 25 senior diplomats have received notice that they must leave their posts next month (January 2026).

According to the report, although these individuals were appointed as US ambassadors to various countries during the administration of former US President Joe Biden, they are career diplomats and have served for years in the foreign service of governments of both parties.

The report added that ambassadors are appointed by the US president, and their tenure in each diplomatic mission typically lasts three to four years. Party-affiliated ambassadors usually leave their posts when the administration changes.

A senior State Department official described the recall of ambassadors as “a standard process in any administration,” although he did not disclose the number of ambassadors recalled or where they will serve.

CNN adds: The recall of these senior diplomats is the latest move by the Trump administration to restructure the State Department and align it more closely with the “America First” policy.

According to the report, more than 1,300 officials working in the main structure of the US State Department, including more than 240 foreign service employees, have lost their jobs during the structural reforms of the institution.
