CNN: Ukraine war is now ‘Trump’s war’

As Donald Trump approaches his 100-day deadline to achieve peace in Ukraine, his pressure on Russia, NATO, and even Moscow’s energy customers like India and China has reached a critical juncture. The US president is now responsible not only for the promise of peace but also for the consequences of the war.

In a report titled “The Ukraine War Is Now Trump’s War,” the American network CNN wrote: Russian President Vladimir Putin started the war in Ukraine. Former US President Joe Biden did not stop it. But regardless of Trump’s efforts, this is the week when Russia’s invasion of Ukraine will become the US president’s war.

Trump is tasked with managing the biggest conflict in Europe since World War II, as the US has been Ukraine’s main ally and supporter under the previous president.

Trump could have withdrawn from the war in Ukraine entirely, but instead, he chose to manage it by imposing his will and personal influence, initially thinking he could end it in “24 hours” or a revised 100-day deadline. Then he tried to manage the people involved in the war, first by reaching out to the Russian president and repeating his narratives, and then by publicly rebuking Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office.

He pressured NATO allies to increase European defense spending, which they agreed to. Then began the arduous process of diplomacy, which ultimately yielded very limited results.

However, the president’s decisions over the past two weeks have turned the issue into a problem that is now his own.
