Congressional Democrats Demand Trump Recognize Palestine.
According to Anadolu Agency, more than a dozen Democrats in the US House of Representatives have signed a letter calling on the Trump administration to officially recognize the state of Palestine.
In a letter addressed to US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the lawmakers wrote: “In this tragic moment, the recognition of the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination is both urgent and necessary for the world.”
The lawmakers noted French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent pledge to recognize the state of Palestine at a UN summit in September.
The letter added: “We encourage governments of other countries that have not yet recognized the state of Palestine, including the United States, to do so.”
“We began communicating last week and the response has been overwhelming,” US Representative Ro Khanna, who is leading the initiative, told Axios.
The US House of Representatives member added: “The recognition of the state of Palestine will be achieved by accepting the 22-nation Arab League plan that was approved this week and calls for the establishment of a Palestinian state.”
“Ro Khanna” wrote to the Trump administration: “More than 147 countries have recognized Palestine. We cannot be separated from the free world.
