Contradictory claims about the possibility of a temporary ceasefire agreement in Gaza

PNN – Al Arabiya TV channel, citing informed sources, claimed: Hamas and Israel have agreed to a 60-day ceasefire. Steve Whittaker, the US President’s special representative, has been informed of the Hamas-Israeli agreement for a Gaza ceasefire.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, Al Arabiya TV channel, citing informed sources, claimed: Hamas and Israel have agreed to a 60-day ceasefire. Steve Whittaker, the US President’s special representative, has been informed of the Hamas-Israeli agreement for a Gaza ceasefire.

The Saudi media outlet also stated on its X account: Trump is expected to announce details of the Gaza ceasefire within the next few hours.

At the same time, some other media outlets close to Saudi Arabia are reporting that Hamas has agreed to a new US plan to establish a ceasefire and exchange prisoners with the Zionist regime.

In this regard, the Saudi Al-Hadath channel, citing its sources, reported that Hamas and Israel agreed to the US proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza. The channel also announced the duration of the ceasefire as 60 days.

The terms of the alleged agreement on a ceasefire and prisoner exchange

According to the plan proposed by Witkoff, at the same time as the ceasefire begins and in accordance with the terms of the January 19, 2025 agreement, the regime will release 125 Palestinian prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment in exchange for the release of 10 living Israeli prisoners. In addition, Israel will agree to the release of 1,111 Palestinian prisoners detained in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023.

Another clause in this agreement is the handover of the bodies of 180 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the return of 18 bodies of Zionist prisoners currently held in Gaza.

From the tenth day of the agreement, Hamas will commit to providing the regime with complete information proving the life or death of other Israeli prisoners held by the resistance in Gaza. Hamas will also guarantee the health and safety of Israeli prisoners during the ceasefire in Gaza. In return, Tel Aviv will also commit to providing Hamas with complete information on all Palestinian prisoners detained in Gaza after October 7, 2023, and to informing it of the number of bodies of Palestinian martyrs abducted from Gaza and in Israeli custody.

According to another clause of this proposed agreement, the parties must make all necessary arrangements to establish a permanent ceasefire in Gaza within 60 days. If this is achieved, all remaining Zionist prisoners held by the Palestinian resistance in the Gaza Strip will be released.

Also, if no agreement is reached on a ceasefire during the 60-day period, there will be a possibility of extending this period temporarily and conditionally.

The claim by Saudi-affiliated media outlets about a ceasefire agreement and prisoner exchange in Gaza comes while the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has denied reaching an agreement just minutes before.
