Controversial identity disclosure/Hamas: The body handed over belongs to an Israeli soldier.
A senior source in the Palestinian resistance told Al Jazeera that the body that Israel has described as unidentified and that does not match any of its prisoners actually belongs to one of the regime’s soldiers who was captured and killed in a direct operation by the Al-Qassam Brigades in the Jabalia camp in the northern Gaza Strip in May 2024.
The source emphasized that the capture and transfer of the body of the Israeli army soldier to one of the resistance tunnels took place during a direct clash with Israeli forces.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army announced in a statement that after forensic examinations, the fourth body handed over by Hamas on Tuesday did not match any of the Zionist prisoners in Gaza.
According to Israeli media reports, three other bodies handed over through the International Committee of the Red Cross have been identified as Tamir Nimrudi, Uriel Baruch and Eitan Levi, but the fourth body is still a matter of dispute.
In this regard, the Israeli Radio and Television Organization claimed that the body in question belonged to a Palestinian who had cooperated with the Israeli army in the tunnel clearance operation.
Within the framework of the prisoner exchange and ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States, Qatar and Egypt, the Israeli regime has received eight bodies and 20 live prisoners from Hamas over the past two days and in return has released 250 Palestinian prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment and 1,718 Palestinians arrested after October 8, 2023.
According to human rights reports, more than 10,000 Palestinians, including women and children, are still in Israeli prisons, many of whom are subjected to torture, starvation and medical deprivation.
