Defense Minister of Al-Jolani gives green light to continued Russian military presence in Syria.
According to the Russia Today website, “Marhef Abu Qasra”, the Minister of Defense of the terrorist regime of Golani, announced in a statement that the new government in Syria has no problem with the continuation of the Russian military presence in the country.
He said in this regard: Damascus agrees with the continuation of the Russian military presence in Syria, including the Hmeimim and Tartus air and naval bases, as long as it serves Syria’s interests.
Pointing out that Moscow’s position towards Damascus has improved significantly after the political change that Syria witnessed, he emphasized that the Syrian authorities are seriously considering Russia’s demands.
In response to a question from the Washington Post about the Russian airstrikes targeting the current elements of the terrorist regime of Jolani during the Syrian war, he replied: “There are no permanent enemies in politics!”
In response to the question of whether Russia will be allowed to maintain its naval base in Tartus and the Hmeimim air base in Latakia, he said: “If we gain benefits for Syria through this, there is no problem with their continued military presence.”
He also noted that Syria is reviewing defense contracts with several countries and is in talks with the United States and Turkey over the status of their military bases in the country.
The terrorist regime’s Defense Minister, Al-Jolani, declined to answer the question of whether Al-Jolani had requested Assad’s extradition during a meeting with Russian officials late last month, but he did note that the issue of holding Assad accountable was raised during the meeting.
Abu Qasra said that “when Bashar Al-Assad decided to go to Russia, he thought we couldn’t reach an agreement with the Russians,” adding: “Perhaps relations with them can be rebuilt in a way that first serves Syria’s interests and then theirs.”
