Democratic Senator: There should be a focus on sending humanitarian aid to Gaza

PNN – Referring to the impending famine in the Gaza Strip, US Senator Richard Blumenthal called for a focus on sending humanitarian aid to the strip.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing CNN, this Connecticut Democratic senator said on Wednesday: The focus should be on sending humanitarian aid, not on weapons shipments.

He added: In the shadow of imminent and perhaps actual famine, it is necessary that (military forces) and the Israeli government focus on providing medicine, food and other equipment.

Blumenthal’s comments came after US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in the Senate on Wednesday that the shipment of weapons to Israel was stopped due to the Rafah operation and that we have not made a final decision on the fate of this shipment.

He added: America does not want to witness a large military operation in Rafah and the focus is on protecting civilians.

In addition, Matthew Miller, the spokesperson of the US State Department, stated that Washington did not approve the Israeli attack on Rafah, and said about the suspension of the shipment of 2,500-pound bombs to Israel: We have stopped a short-term aid shipment and are investigating other shipments.

Regarding Rafah, Miller said: Israel has not presented a credible humanitarian plan that takes into account the possible harm to civilian life in such a crowded area or the proper evacuation and care of the more than one million people present in this area.

Miller added: Israel is not complying with the US President’s request to increase aid to Gaza. The part of the Rafah border crossing that is under Israeli control must be reopened immediately.
