Democrats: Trump’s Venezuela attack is a cover for domestic defeat and an illegal war.

The American website Politico wrote: Trump’s top Democratic rivals in the upcoming elections have sharply criticized his foreign policy and are trying to distinguish between the president and voters tired of foreign interference. According to them, Trump carried out this operation to divert attention from the deteriorating political situation at home.

Former US Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg wrote on the X-Messenger: “This is a clear and old pattern of an unpopular president who has failed to address economic issues and has lost his popularity at home. The American people do not want to ‘run’ a foreign country when our officials cannot improve the lives of their people.”

Politico wrote: These criticisms by Democrats are part of an emerging trend that could determine the state of this year’s midterm elections and the 2028 presidential election. Democrats are seeking to show that Trump has broken his campaign promises by paying too much attention to global issues instead of addressing domestic issues.

Trump won the 2024 presidential election on the “America First” platform, promising to end U.S. interference in foreign affairs and focus more on helping Americans.

The president justified Maduro’s arrest as an “America First” move at a press conference at Mar-a-Lago on Saturday morning. “We want good neighbors,” he said, “we want stability,” and “we want to be surrounded by abundant energy resources.”

Illinois Democratic Governor J.B. Pritzker also argued that Trump should prioritize increasing the purchasing power and affordability of citizens.
