The Swedish government first decided to deport the person who insulted the Quran and hand him over to Iraq, but he said he did not want to implement this decision.
The Swedish Migration Agency announced on Thursday that it has decided not to extradite Selvan Momika, who tried to burn the Quran several times, to Iraq.
Reports indicate that the Swedish Immigration Department first concluded yesterday that Selvan Momika, who is originally from Iraq and has become a refugee in Sweden, should be deported and handed over to Iraq.
Despite this, the department claimed that Sweden decided not to implement this sentence, considering that he might be tortured in his native country.
“Yesterday, the Immigration Service decided to revoke his status and residence permit and send him back [to Iraq],” a spokesman for the agency told Reuters.
However, he said Sweden could not enforce the sentence because the person would face the risk of “torture” and inhumane treatment if returned to Iraq.
This speaker claimed that the reason for issuing this verdict was that Selvan Momika had provided the wrong information in his application form for obtaining residence.
