Details of the meeting of the American officials with the officials of the interim government of Syria

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing Al Jazeera, the US embassy in Damascus announced that officials from this country met with the officials of the Syrian interim government.

The Washington embassy announced: American officials met with the current officials of Damascus regarding the issue of protecting Americans in Syria and ensuring the fate of Americans in this country, as well as regarding the continuation of the fight against the ISIS terrorist group in Syria with the officials of the Syrian transitional government.

According to the American Embassy in Damascus, the American officials also discussed the issue of participation of all Syrians in the new system and guaranteeing the inclusive political process.

About 12 days ago, a high-ranking American delegation traveled to Damascus and met with Ahmad al-Shara, known as al-Jolani, the commander of the Tahrir al-Sham armed opposition group and the commander of the Syrian Military Operations Department, for whom the United States had previously set a $10 million reward for his arrest.

The meeting of American officials with Ahmad al-Shara, known as Abu Mohammad al-Julani, according to CNN, underscores the need for Washington’s efforts to engage with the Syrian interim government to ensure that the country does not see the re-emergence of terrorist groups such as ISIS.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken previously said: We want to make it clear to the Tahrir al-Sham editorial board and all the emerging Syrian authorities that their recognition, the support they want and need from the international community, must know that there are certain expectations along with it.

He acknowledged “the positive statements of al-Jolani, the commander of Tahrir al-Sham’s staff” but noted that “everyone is focused on performance.”

Blinken also suggested that lifting U.S. and international sanctions against Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, a terrorist group with previous ties to al-Qaeda, depends on “concrete actions.”

The armed opposition in Syria started their operations in the northwestern, western and southwestern areas of Aleppo from November 27, 2024 with the aim of removing Bashar Assad from power, and finally after 11 days, they announced their control over the city of Damascus and the departure of Assad from this country.

In this regard, “Mohammed al-Bashir”, who was designated as the head of the transitional period of Syria, officially assumed the headship of the transitional government of this country until next March.
