Details of the new US proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza, according to Witkoff.
According to the Palestinian Information Center, Steve Whitaker, US President Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy, said that the US has submitted a proposal to reduce the gap in the negotiations and extend the ceasefire in Gaza.
According to a US official, the proposal includes extending the ceasefire until after the holy month of Ramadan and the Jewish holiday of Passover. Because the extension of the ceasefire provides more time to negotiate a framework for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
He said that Hamas is aware of the deadline and the US will respond accordingly.
The statement by Whitaker and the US National Security Council also stated that Washington has submitted a proposal to reduce the differences and extend the ceasefire in Gaza.
According to the proposal, Hamas will release live Israeli prisoners in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, according to previous formulas. The extension of the ceasefire in the first stage will allow the resumption of humanitarian aid, while Washington will seek a permanent solution to stop the conflict during the extended ceasefire.
According to Whittaker, Washington has informed Hamas through its partners in Qatar and Egypt that the proposal should be implemented soon.
Hamas officials and leaders have not yet reacted to the proposal, but its full acceptance by Hamas remains uncertain.
