Diplomacy is the solution to the challenges of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Zalmay Khalilzad, the former US envoy for Afghanistan peace, wrote on X Network that relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan are of strategic importance and that only through dialogue and interaction can sustainable solutions be achieved.
He emphasized that diplomacy can help strengthen security, political, and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Khalilzad also pointed out that the current challenges require dialogue and cooperation to reduce tensions and create areas of mutual trust.
Relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have always been accompanied by ups and downs over the past decades. Among the most important issues of dispute are the sanctuaries of insurgent groups, border disputes, and the role of armed groups in the instability of the two countries.
Kabul has repeatedly accused Islamabad of supporting opposition groups, and in return, Pakistan has raised concerns about the activities of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Afghan soil.
After the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021, relations between Kabul and Islamabad were expected to improve, but developments have shown that security and political problems persist. Border attacks, frequent closures of crossings, and concerns about increased activity by extremist groups are among the factors that have strained relations between the two countries.
