The news agency further quoted a Thai government official as saying that the acting prime minister will speak today with U.S. President Donald Trump about developments in the country and the border dispute with Cambodia.

Trump has also said that several phone calls need to be made regarding Thailand and Cambodia.

Earlier, former Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra was removed from office by the Constitutional Court for failing to uphold ethical principles in the border dispute with Cambodia.

Under Thai law, parliamentary elections must be held between 45 and 60 days after the dissolution of parliament.
