Doha talks reached a dead end; Is there any hope for Cairo negotiations?

Almost 318 days have passed since the Battle of Al-Aqsa Storm, and the ceasefire in Gaza has not yet been resolved. The killing of nearly 40,000 Palestinians, the destruction of more than 80% of Gaza’s infrastructure, and the assassination of the political leaders of the Hamas movement still failed to create a desire in Netanyahu and the Israeli army commanders to stop the war and engage in political negotiations.

During the last round of ceasefire negotiations in the capital Doha, although American officials insist that the foundations of the initial agreement between the two sides be laid, it seems that there are still disputes between Hamas and the Zionist regime. Osama Hamdan, the representative of the Hamas movement, believes: All eyes are on the negotiations next week in Cairo to determine whether Netanyahu has the will to abandon the unrealistic conditions and agree to a ceasefire or not.

Doha negotiations are deadlocked

Despite the announcement that the Hamas movement will not participate in the new round of ceasefire negotiations, Doha hosted delegations from the Zionist regime, America, and Egypt on Thursday and Friday. Apparently, in this round of negotiations, the Israeli delegation went to Qatar with a new composition, and new names such as Nitzan Alon and Ofir Falk, advisor to the Prime Minister, also participated in the negotiations. On the American side, this time Burns and McGurk were present next to each other to convey the message of the White House. According to the information published by Hebrew sources, in this round of disputes, the new terms of Netanyahu, which were raised during the Rome meeting, were the cause of the disappointment of the mediator parties.

The Israeli side wants the continuation of the presence of its forces in the border strip with Egypt and the Philadelphia axis, the deportation of some freed Palestinians, as well as the supervision of the communication corridor of Netzarim as the connecting point between the south and the north of Gaza. Netanyahu’s terms have not been accepted by Hamas. Despite the aforementioned differences, leaked news from the negotiations indicates the progress of both sides in the prisoner exchange case. The parties reached an initial agreement on the number, names, and mechanism of exchange of prisoners. Despite the mentioned developments, the Israeli side did not have enough authority and will to conclude the negotiations in Doha, and now all hopes are in Cairo negotiations.

False hope for Cairo negotiations

With the end of the Doha negotiations, the technical teams will once again go to Cairo to discuss the merits of the ceasefire agreement and exchange of prisoners. Despite the efforts of the United States and mediator actors to express hope for the first round of political negotiations in Doha, it seems that the Prime Minister of the Zionist regime still insists on his previous position and has no intention of retreating. In other words, Netanyahu intends to create ambiguity in the agreement and create a path for military return to Gaza, effectively blocking the path of any peace with Hamas.

Based on this, many observers do not have much hope for the negotiations in Cairo and consider this political show to be only a measure to kill time and control the behavior of the resistance axis in order not to harm the interests of the Zionist regime. According to the Washington Post newspaper, just one day after the Doha negotiations, the American official quoted Biden as claiming that the recent negotiations are an irreplaceable opportunity for peace and that Iran should not jeopardize this opportunity by taking action against Israel. He further threatened Tehran that an attack on Israel would have a heavy price for the Islamic Republic.
