Domino, head of prisoners’ affairs, resigns from the Israeli army.
According to the Haaretz newspaper, the Israeli army announced last night (Sunday night) that Nitzan Allon, head of the Prisoners of War and Missing Persons Headquarters and a senior member of the Israeli team negotiating the ceasefire agreement, has agreed with Eyal Zamir, the army chief of staff, to end his position.
Allon was appointed by Herzliya Halevi, the former chief of staff of the Israeli army, at the beginning of the Gaza war to head the Prisoners of War and Missing Persons Headquarters, and has held this position ever since.
Earlier, Ben Kaspit, a senior Israeli analyst at Ma’ariv, had pointed out the serious disagreement between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Allon on the issue of prisoners of war and missing persons and announced that Netanyahu intends to dismiss him.
Alon’s resignation comes at a time when the Israeli army is currently facing an unprecedented challenge and escalating differences within its organizational structure due to the revelation of the torture of Palestinian prisoners in the Sade Taiman prison. The regime’s Chief of Staff, Yifat Tomer Yerushalimi, has dismissed the military prosecutor of the army from his post on charges of being the one responsible for revealing this torture.
