They stated that this trip to Washington would mark el-Sisi’s first visit during Trump’s second presidential term.

The report added that el-Sisi and Trump are expected to consult on key regional issues, particularly the relations between Cairo and Tel Aviv following the Gaza war and Ethiopia’s Renaissance Dam on the Nile.

No specific date for the meeting was mentioned, but the report noted that el-Sisi intends to discuss amendments to the peace treaty signed with Israel in 1979. According to the sources, Cairo is primarily seeking to ease restrictions on the number of personnel and the types of weapons they can deploy in the so-called Zone J in the Sinai Desert. Under the current arrangement, Egypt is allowed to station a limited number of border forces with specified weapons in the area. Following Israel’s occupation of the border strip between Gaza and the Sinai, Egypt has increased its military presence in the region.
