Egyptian Foreign Minister: War in Sudan must stop as soon as possible.

In a joint press conference with the Foreign Minister of the Maldives, Abdel Ati said: “Egypt is first and foremost concerned about all developments in Sudan.”

He stressed that Egypt insists on quickly achieving a humanitarian ceasefire in Sudan, so that it leads to an immediate cessation of hostilities and then paves the way for the start of an inclusive political process in which no one is excluded from participation and is formed under the full management and authority of the Sudanese.”

Referring to last week’s meeting between the head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Badr Abdel Ati said: “Al-Sisi invited al-Burhan to visit Cairo and the two sides discussed the vital importance of ending the war.”

The Egyptian Foreign Minister stressed his country’s full commitment to supporting the Sudanese government and all its governing institutions, especially the military, and noted that efforts are underway to stop the war and reach an understanding between the conflicting parties.

He expressed hope that positive results would be achieved in the near future and that an understanding would be reached between all parties concerned to implement a humanitarian ceasefire as soon as possible.

Badr Abdel Ati also called the siege of El Fasher “cruel” and called for an end to the blockade.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister stressed the importance of delivering humanitarian aid to all regions of Sudan and called for efforts to end the fighting, prevent the entry of weapons from abroad, and begin a political process.
