Eisenkot: Trump’s meeting with Jolani is a bad sign for Israel.
According to the Zionist newspaper Ma’ariv, Gadi Eisenkot, former chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Israeli army, reacted to the meeting two days ago between US President Donald Trump and Ahmed al-Sharaa, alias Abu Muhammad al-Julani, head of the interim Syrian government, in Riyadh.
He claimed: Trump’s meeting with al-Julani is a bad sign for Israel. Today, in Syria, he is a leader who is considered a terrorist. One of our goals was to try to use a position of power and exploit America’s position in the region.
Regarding Hamas, he also said: Netanyahu’s insistence on signing a partial agreement with Hamas is a big mistake that stems from political motives; the conflict with Hamas will never end in the current generation and will continue for a long time, and complete victory is an unrealistic slogan.
Eisenkot also responded to the negotiations between Hamas and the US regarding the release of Israeli-American prisoner Aidan Alexander, saying: Direct negotiations are taking place between Hamas and Washington behind our backs.
Trump met with Jolani in Riyadh yesterday, ahead of a meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council member states.
The meeting took place after Trump announced that his country would lift sanctions imposed on Syria.
According to IRNA, the Zionist regime launched a war against the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023 with two main goals: to destroy the Hamas movement and return the Zionist prisoners from the region, but failed to achieve these goals and was forced to reach an agreement with the Hamas movement to exchange prisoners.
On January 19, 2025, based on an agreement between Hamas and the Zionist regime, a ceasefire was established in the Gaza Strip, and a number of prisoners were exchanged. However, the Zionist regime refused to enter into the second phase of the ceasefire negotiations and resumed its military aggression against the Gaza Strip on the morning of Tuesday, March 18, in violation of the terms of the ceasefire.
