Employing “foreign terrorists”; Jolani’s tactic to counter threats.
According to Al-Mayadeen, the rule of Abu Muhammad Al-Julani in Syria is currently making a massive effort to unify armed terrorist groups under the banner of the country’s Ministry of Defense, which seems to be a complex and impossible mission, despite the contradictions between these groups.
Tens of thousands of foreign terrorists entered Syria during the rule of Bashar Al-Assad to fight the government. Many of these individuals remained inside Syria and played a role in the operations that led to the fall of Bashar Al-Assad’s rule in the country. Some of these groups and individuals did not have good relations with the Tahrir al-Sham Front, which later took over under the leadership of Abu Muhammad Al-Julani; but they remained inside Syria.
Al-Mayadeen further stated: The ideological approaches of these groups are not clear, some of them are extremist elements and others are mercenaries who do not care about anything other than money. This has caused many of them to go to Ukraine, Libya and other countries. Their combat approaches are also not uniform, and it cannot be assumed that they all follow ideological principles for their struggles, but some of them have even gone to Ukraine to fight against Russia.
The Golani regime granted military ranks to many foreign terrorists due to their positive role in confronting the Bashar al-Assad government and participating in the overthrow of the country’s government, which has been criticized by many countries, both domestically and internationally.
In the current situation, it is not possible to accurately examine the public’s positions on the presence of these terrorists, because there is no scale to determine the people’s approaches, and each group describes itself as representing the people and expresses its goals through their words. However, there is a widespread media attack on cyberspace pages to damage the image of these terrorists, especially in minority areas, which shows that they are opposed to the presence of these terrorists in their areas.
The incidents on the Syrian coast and the attacks carried out against people in this region by terrorist groups have increased the general concern of citizens regarding the presence of these elements in Syrian society. The investigative committee established in this regard has not yet announced the results of its investigation, but the European sanctions against three groups inside Syria following these incidents were issued to show that foreign terrorist groups were innocent of committing these attacks.
