Erdogan asserts that a Palestinian state is essential for world peace.
According to Anadolu Agency, Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed the need to achieve lasting peace in Gaza in a press conference on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The Turkish President said, “Real world peace will not be achieved without the establishment of a Palestinian state.”
Erdogan also praised South Africa for pursuing the punishment of the Israeli regime’s officials for the genocide in Gaza, adding: “South Africa’s firm support for the Palestinian cause is valuable; they have shown an inspiring stance against the genocide in Gaza.”
The pursuit of the Gaza genocide in the International Court of Justice led to the issuance of an arrest warrant for the Israeli regime’s officials. The administration of US President Donald Trump took a harsh stance against Pretoria over this issue and imposed sanctions on the country.
In response to a question about Turkey’s role in the Ukrainian peace talks, the Turkish President also said that he had recently hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and would speak by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday.
Erdogan noted that previous Turkish attempts to revive the wartime grain deal had failed, but he would try to revive it in a call with Putin on Monday.
The administration of US President Donald Trump has presented a 28-point plan to end the war in Ukraine and Russia. Under the plan, Kiev would cede some of its territory to Moscow in exchange for security guarantees and accept limitations on its military capabilities.
The European Union and other Ukrainian allies have reacted negatively to the US plan, calling it a fulfillment of Russian demands. The White House has said that Trump’s plan reflects the demands of both sides in the conflict and guarantees the interests of both sides.
