Erdogan goes to Damascus; visits Umayyad Mosque and possible meeting with Al-Julani.

According to Turkey Daily, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will soon travel to Damascus.

During this trip, the Turkish media outlet wrote that Erdogan plans to pray at the historic Umayyad Mosque. It is said that the trip will take place within the next 15 days, but the exact date has not been announced.

According to the outlet, speculation has also increased about Erdogan’s meeting with Abu Muhammad al-Julani, the leader of the terrorist group “Hayat Tahrir al-Sham”, which currently controls Syria.

The newspaper wrote that Erdogan’s possible visit to Damascus will be a significant turning point in Ankara-Damascus relations, especially after the fall of the government of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

After the fall of Damascus on December 8th following an attack by armed rebels and the terrorist group “Hayet Tahrir al-Sham”, former President Bashar al-Assad sought refuge in Russia, and Mohammed al-Bashir took charge as interim Prime Minister on December 10th.
