Erdogan: It is necessary for Türkiye to cut ties with the European Union

Pak Sahafat – Before leaving for the United States, the Turkish president said in response to the European Union’s annual report on Turkey that Ankara would cut ties with the European Union if necessary.

According to Pak Sahafat International News Agency, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday, in response to a question about the content of the European Parliament’s report on Turkey, that Ankara can separate its way from the European Union if necessary.

On September 13, the European Parliament emphasized in its annual report that Ankara and Brussels should find other ways to expand their cooperation besides Turkey’s joining the European Union, because it is currently not possible for Turkey to join the European Union.

In this report, the European Parliament also asked Turkey to support Sweden’s accession to NATO and clarified that the process of joining NATO by one country cannot be related to another country’s joining the European Union.

This report was published in a situation where the President of Turkey asked the European Union to open its doors to accession a few months ago so that Ankara would also support Sweden’s membership in NATO.

According to the report of Anatolia news agency, Erdoğan said in response to this report: “The European Union is trying to separate from Turkey. We make our evaluations regarding these developments, and if necessary, we can also cut ties with the European Union.

Previously, the Turkish Foreign Ministry responded to the European Parliament’s annual report on Ankara and said that the report is full of unfair accusations and prejudices.

In the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, it was stated: “At a critical moment when there is an opportunity to revive the relations between Turkey and the European Union, we consider such actions of the European Parliament to be irrational instead of negotiating the membership of our country in the European Union.”
