Pak Sahafat – During his speech at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the President of Turkey pointed out that the Security Council is no longer the guarantor of global security, and said that this institution has become the battlefield of five countries’ political strategies.
According to the report of the International group of Pak Sahafat news agency, quoting Anatoly, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on the first day of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, which was attended by the heads of states and governments, ministers and delegations of the member countries of this organization from September 19, 2023, with the theme of “restoration of trust and restoration of global solidarity”.
In his speech, he pointed out that the United Nations Security Council is no longer the guarantor of global security and said: The Security Council has become the battlefield of political strategies of 5 countries.
Pointing out that the world is facing more serious trials and tests, Erdogan stated that the war in Ukraine has created very serious problems.
“Unfortunately, we cannot paint a more optimistic picture of the world’s future than the assessments we did here last year,” he said. There are many problems in the south, north, east and west of my country.
There are many conflicts, wars, humanitarian crises, political conflicts and social tensions. Dealing with these increasing challenges along with global economic problems is becoming more difficult every day.
Fight against terrorism
Erdogan continued: We are tired of the hypocrisy of those who use the ISIS terrorist group and similar terrorist groups as a cover for their interests, especially in Syria and Iraq, the Middle East and North Africa.
Countries that continue to cooperate with terrorist groups only for their political and economic benefits do not have the right to complain about terrorism and its related problems.
European Union
In a part of his speech, President Erdoğan pointed out: We expect the European Union to fulfill its obligations towards our country quickly, and dual attitudes towards Turkey must end.

United Nations Security Council
Erdogan expressed his happiness that the theme of this year’s UN General Assembly is in line with Turkey’s goals and continued his words as follows: The world is bigger than five (permanent member states of the United Nations). The United Nations Security Council is no longer the guarantor of global security, but has become a battlefield for the political strategies of 5 countries.
He emphasized: We must quickly review the institutions responsible for ensuring the security, peace and prosperity of the world under the leadership of the United Nations.
Erdogan continued: We invite the international community to recognize the independence of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and establish diplomatic, political and economic relations with this country.
We will increasingly continue our efforts to end the war in Ukraine through diplomacy and dialogue based on the country’s independence and territorial integrity.
Palestine issue
Erdoğan said: Permanent peace in the Middle East is possible only with the final solution to the problem of Palestine and Israel.
It is impossible for Israel to find the peace and security it seeks unless an independent and geographically integrated Palestinian state is created based on the 1967 borders.
Karabakh is the territory of Azerbaijan
Erdogan emphasized in his speech: As everyone now agrees, Karabakh is the territory of Azerbaijan, imposing a different situation will never be accepted.
The President of Turkey said: We have supported the negotiation process between Azerbaijan and Armenia from the beginning, but we see that Armenia has not used this historic opportunity.
He added: “With the slogan of one nation, two governments, we support Azerbaijan’s measures to protect the territorial integrity of this country.”
