Establishing new Turkish laws to normalize business relations with Syria

PNN – In an important step towards strengthening and normalizing economic relations with Syria, Türkiye established new rules and regulations.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network from TRT channel, the Ministry of Commerce of Türkiye announced that these laws will replace the older and restrictive policies associated with the previous Syrian government and will begin a new phase of economic cooperation with this country.

The ministry’s statement said that these regulations came into effect on February 8 and seek to reduce export, transit, and import restrictions and make the terms of trade with Syria equal to other countries.

According to the new regulations, restrictions on exports and transit cargoes to Syria through Turkish customs have been lifted.

Goods exported from Türkiye to Syria are now handled under the same conditions as other countries.

In addition, transit procedures for items exported from Syria to third countries, with the exception of scrap metal; have been liberalized to facilitate the flow of goods across borders.

Imports from Syria have also become normal. Goods that were previously restricted are now subject to standard Turkish customs and security protocols.

The Syrian government announced Türkiye’s decision to lift the ban on the entry of Syrian goods into Turkish markets.

“Mazen Alloush”, director of public relations of the General Directorate of Land and Sea Crossings of Syria, said: Our meetings and negotiations with the Turkish Ministry of Trade led to the cancellation of the restrictions imposed on the export of Syrian goods to Turkish markets; Türkiye has also agreed to open its territory to resume transit exports of Syrian goods to foreign countries.

Türkiye had previously reopened its embassy in Damascus.

Turkey closed its embassy in Damascus on March 26, 2012 in protest at what it called the “violent suppression of Syrian protesters” and returned its staff and their families to Turkey.

On November 27, 2024, the armed opposition in Syria started their operations in the northwestern, western and southwestern regions of Aleppo with the aim of removing Bashar Assad from power, and finally, after 11 days, they announced their control over the city of Damascus and the departure of Bashar Assad from the country.
