EU official against Zionists: International laws must be implemented.

According to Anadolu Agency, Kaya Kalas, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, held a joint press conference with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Brussels on Tuesday regarding the seizure of the Madeleine ship by the Israeli regime in international waters, and stated that international law must also be applied in international waters.

Responding to a question from an Anadolu Agency reporter about the presence of nine EU citizens, including Rima Hassan, a member of the European Parliament, on the Madeleine ship, which was seized by the Israeli army while carrying humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, Kalas emphasized: “The responsibility to protect EU citizens lies with the member states of this institution.”

The EU official also pointed out that the seizure of the ship in international waters was illegal and that many countries have condemned this action, adding: “International law must also be applied in international waters. We spoke today (with Jaishankar) about the need to strengthen international maritime law.”

The sailing ship “Madeleine,” belonging to a civil society organization called the “Freedom Fleet Coalition,” set sail from the port of St. John Le Cotty in Catania on June 1st for the Gaza Strip, but was intercepted by the Israeli army in international waters on June 9th.

The ship “Madeleine” was carrying 12 people. Among the passengers on the ship were Rima Hassan, a member of the European Parliament, Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, and Irish actor Liam Cunningham. These civil society activists were trying to break the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip and provide humanitarian aid to the region when they were kidnapped by the occupiers.
