EU suspends political dialogue with Israel.
Several EU political officials told Al Jazeera Qatar that EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has proposed suspending political talks with Israel.
The sources told the Qatari network that Borrell believes that there are signs of violations of human rights and international law by Israel.
According to these European diplomatic sources, EU foreign ministers will review the suspension of talks with Israel next Monday.
These diplomatic sources announced that the proposal to suspend the talks is a dangerous signal that shows the EU’s perspective on Israel’s behavior.
Borrell also said on Tuesday morning about the statements of Israeli Finance Minister Betzeil Smotrich regarding the annexation of the West Bank to Israel: “I condemn Smotrich’s request to impose Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank because this is a clear act of illegal annexation [of this area].
He added: “Smotrich’s speech also undermines international law, violates Palestinian rights, and threatens any opportunity for a two-state solution.”
