European countries call for full Palestinian membership in the UN.
According to Al Jazeera, four European countries, Spain, Ireland, Slovenia and Norway, in a joint statement called for the acceptance of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations.
These countries also announced that the recognition of an independent Palestinian state would be an important step towards implementing the two-state solution and achieving lasting peace in the Middle East.
This statement coincides with the statements of former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who said hours ago: The two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital are the only path to achieving peace in the region.
Germany and Switzerland call for an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian access to Gaza
The German and Swiss foreign ministries also stressed the need for a ceasefire and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip in separate statements on Wednesday evening.
The Swiss Foreign Ministry, expressing its deep concern about the humanitarian situation in Gaza, announced: “We are deeply concerned about the unbearable suffering of the people in Gaza and call for unrestricted access to humanitarian aid.” The statement also stressed the need to strengthen diplomatic efforts to end the war and release Israeli prisoners.
Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister Johannes Waddiful, referring to the recent attack on a food distribution center in Gaza, said: “This incident once again shows that current efforts are not enough to end the crisis.”
He said: “There is an urgent need to make progress in the ceasefire negotiations in Gaza.”
These positions come at a time when the humanitarian situation in Gaza is reported to be extremely critical and international organizations have called for urgent action to alleviate the suffering of civilians.
