European farmers’ protests spread to Spain and Portugal

PNN – With the continuation of protests by farmers in European countries against the laws and policies of governments, Spanish farmers also announced their plan for demonstrations in February.

According to the International group of Pakistan News Network, Spanish farmers’ unions announced on Tuesday their plans for demonstrations in February to protest against restrictive and strict European agricultural laws and the lack of support from the Madrid government.

According to “Reuters” news agency, the three major trade unions of Spanish farmers emphasized that their complaints are the same as those of protesting farmers in other European countries and said that the environmental laws imposed by Brussels have weakened the profitability of grains and increased the price of food.

“Farmers will be mobilized for demonstrations as soon as possible,” Pedro Barrato, head of Spain’s Asaxa agricultural union, which represents about 200,000 Spanish farmers and ranchers, said in a radio interview.

These unions announced in a joint statement that the protests of the Spanish farmers will be held in the coming weeks, and the members of the “Asakha” union will hold a meeting on Thursday of this week to prepare for these demonstrations.

According to “Reuters” news agency, as the protests of protesting farmers in France also intensify, reports indicate that about 20,000 Spanish trucks that cross the French border every day to transport fruit, vegetables and other goods are in trouble.

The transport trade union “Fenadismer” in Spain has estimated that the blocking of the traffic of Spanish trucks on the routes inside France has caused a daily loss of 10 million euros to Spanish companies.

Spanish organizations plan to ask Brussels to stop negotiations with the Mercosur trade bloc, as well as trade agreements with Chile, Kenya, Mexico, India and Australia.

In recent days, in addition to France, protesting farmers have demonstrated in Belgium, Germany, Poland and Romania against the unfair policies of Europe and the governments of these countries in the field of agriculture.
