European officials react to Gaza ceasefire agreement.
According to Sputnik, the announcement of the Gaza ceasefire agreement brokered by Egypt, Qatar and the US has received a positive response from European leaders.
Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani officially announced the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and the Israeli regime last night. The agreement, brokered by Qatar, the US and Egypt and to be implemented from Sunday, January 19, is mainly related to the mechanism of the first phase, which will last 42 days and during which 33 Israeli prisoners (either alive or dead) will be handed over.
German Chancellor Olaf Schulz wrote in “X”: It is a welcome development that the ceasefire agreement and the release of hostages in Gaza, including Germans, seem to have been achieved! Now this agreement must be implemented consistently. All hostages must be released.
French President Emmanuel Macron described the agreement as a relief for Gaza residents after “15 months of unjustifiable suffering.”
The Spanish prime minister also welcomed the agreement, calling it crucial for achieving regional stability.
Nicolas Baidou, head of the Swiss Foreign Ministry’s communications department, wrote in X that the country welcomed the gradual ceasefire and thanked the United States, Egypt and Qatar for their efforts.
Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Mallmar Stengaard also called the ceasefire a prerequisite for a two-state solution.
The Austrian Foreign Ministry also welcomed the signing of the ceasefire agreement and expressed its gratitude to the United States, Egypt, and Qatar. The Italian government also described the agreement as an opportunity to increase humanitarian aid to Gaza residents.
