European officials: Trump will not force Ukraine to talk to Russia.
Bloomberg, citing European sources, said that after private talks with members of Trump’s team, Ukraine’s European allies are optimistic that US President Donald Trump will not force Kyiv to engage in talks with Russia at any cost or insist on early talks to end the war in Ukraine.
According to these European officials, whom Bloomberg did not name, “the exchange of views in these talks increases the possibility that the new US administration can help war-torn Ukraine return to a position of strength before any negotiations begin.”
In this regard, the White House national security adviser on Wednesday, indicating that the option of stopping support for Ukraine to achieve peace is on the table in Washington, admitted that the United States is not interested in it!
Sullivan said in an interview with the New York Times: “It is true that we could have cut off aid to Ukraine. We could have said, ‘You will not get any aid unless you agree to Russia’s ownership of part of your territory’; that option is still on the table.”
He added that forcing Ukraine to accept specific conditions for peace would “definitely tear apart NATO unity.”
According to Sullivan, the fact that the United States is providing weapons to Ukraine does not mean that Washington should impose its desired outcome of the war on Kyiv!
