European Union employees protest against the silence of the leaders of this bloc against the Gaza war

PNN – More than 200 employees of the European Union, in a letter of protest to three of the heads of this union, called the bloc’s indifference to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza alarming and considered it contrary to the basic values ​​of Brussels.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network from the Guardian newspaper, the signatories of this letter expressed concern about the bloc’s “continuous indifference” to the suffering of the Palestinians and demanded an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

In this letter, the employees of EU institutions and agencies expressed their growing concern about the bloc’s response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and considered it contrary to its values ​​and main goals to promote peace.

This letter, which was signed by 211 people and addressed to the three senior officials of the European Union, strongly condemned the attacks of October 7 and further cited the verdict of the International Court of Justice in The Hague, which raised the danger of genocide for the Palestinians warned that the EU’s “continued indifference to the plight of the Palestinians” risks normalizing a world order in which the mere use of force replaces a rule-based system.

Zeno Benti, one of the signatories, told the Guardian: We could not believe that our leaders, who spoke so much about human rights and presented Europe as a beacon of human rights, suddenly became so silent in the face of such a crisis. It is as if we were suddenly asked to close our eyes to our values ​​and the principles we were working for.

The letter also highlighted the “inability of the EU to respond to the growing demands that are in clear contradiction with the values ​​that the EU stands for”.

The signatories also called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the occupied territories and emphasized the cessation of direct and indirect arms exports by EU member states to Israel.

The letter is said to have been delivered to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, as well as European Parliament President Roberta Metsula and European Council President Charles Michel.

The letter sent to EU leaders comes a few weeks after more than 100 EU employees demonstrated in Brussels to protest Israel’s war in Gaza.
