Evil winds return; California is again at risk of wildfires.
According to the Associated Press, less than two weeks after the deadly and devastating wildfires in Southern California and Los Angeles began, which have killed at least 27 people and are still not fully contained, the US National Weather Service has predicted strong winds and a possible increase in the number of fires in the region.
According to the National Weather Service, the winds will reach about 113 kilometers per hour along the coast and about 161 kilometers per hour in the mountains and foothills.
The agency has issued an “extremely dangerous conditions” warning for parts of Los Angeles and Ventura from this evening to tomorrow morning due to low humidity and destructive “Santa Ana” winds.
Rich Thompson, a US Weather Service official, said that stormy weather and single-digit humidity are likely to continue through Thursday, and the risk of fires is also high because the region has not had rain since April.
The warnings come as firefighters continue to battle the fires in Los Angeles, Palisades and Eaton counties, which have destroyed more than 14,000 buildings since the fires began in the areas on January 7th, fueled by strong winds.
The Palisades fire was 52 percent contained and the Eaton fire 81 percent contained as of yesterday, according to the latest reports, and with the humidity dropping and winds picking up again, the possibility of secondary fires is high.
