Exchange of fire between Cuban Coast Guard and US boat leaves four dead, seven injured

PNN – Cuba’s Interior Ministry announced that four people were killed and seven others were injured in an exchange of fire between the country’s coast guard and the passengers of a US-registered speedboat.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing AFP, the Cuban Interior Ministry announced in a statement on Wednesday night that the boat, registered in the US state of Florida, was tracked one nautical mile off the coast of Falcons Key in the province of Villa Clara.

The statement added that a Cuban Coast Guard vessel approached the boat, which was “shots fired” by its occupants, wounding the Cuban vessel’s commander.

The Cuban Interior Ministry said: As a result of the clash, four foreign attackers were killed and six others were injured.

The ministry said the injured were removed from the boat and receiving treatment, adding that it was committed to “protecting Cuba’s territorial waters.”

The conflict comes as US pressure on Cuba has increased and Washington’s sanctions against the Latin American country have intensified.
